Description:

Not only is Johann Sebastian Bach one of the very foremost names in the history of western music, he is also one of its foremost educators. His first pupil came to him already while he was organist in Arnstadt, and the number swelled in Weimar. But it was in Leipzig that his teaching activity really expanded,  with a number of pupils destined to play an important role in the development of music both in and around Germany. Some of them are represented on this CD, but there are many others. The roll call also included Bach’s own sons (and possibly his daughters too), four of whom made music their profession.

Being a pupil of Bach’s meant a many-sided education with technique training on various keyboard instruments, studies of continuo playing, improvisation and, lastly, composition, with harmony and counterpoint as natural ingredients.
